The Mop Fly is tied from a strip of cleaning mop, and the fly fishing community has never recovered from this indignity. Traditionalists despise it. Tournament anglers worship it. Trout eat it with an enthusiasm that settles the debate entirely. The chenille body undulates in the current like a caddis larva that went to finishing school, and the jig hook rides point-up to avoid snags. It has been banned from some competitions, which is the highest compliment a fly can receive.
