Spring in the Northeast means herring. Rivers that were empty in winter suddenly fill with silvery, blue-backed alewives and bluebacks moving upstream to spawn, and every striper in the ocean follows them in. This Deceiver variant matches the herring's distinctive blue-gray coloring and wide profile -- the spring uniform of the Northeast coast. Fish it in the mouths of herring rivers at dawn and try to remain calm when a forty-inch striper appears behind your fly. You will fail. That is expected.
