Hickory shad do not eat in freshwater. This is an established scientific fact. They also eat this fly with enthusiasm, which is an established angling fact. The two facts coexist in the comfortable cognitive dissonance that defines shad fishing. This small, flashy wet fly triggers an aggressive response in spawning shad that scientists attribute to territorial behavior and anglers attribute to the fly being, and I quote, 'really shiny.' Both explanations have merit.
