Bob Popovics took Lefty Kreh's Deceiver and gave it a New Jersey accent. The bucktail replacement for saddle hackle creates a denser, more robust profile that survives the grinding surf of the Mid-Atlantic with its dignity intact. Where the original Deceiver is elegant, this version is tough -- the kind of fly that would order its coffee black and mean it. Fish it from Sandy Hook to Montauk in conditions that would disassemble a lesser pattern.
